ST. MODWEN HOMES SPONSORS WORLEBURY JUNIOR OPEN

National housebuilder, St. Modwen Homes threw its support behind The Worlebury Junior Open last week as part of its commitment to supporting the local community surrounding its Locking Parklands development, near Weston-super-Mare.

Proving a huge success, the annual junior golfing event attracted some 30 golfers from across the region to Worlebury Golf Club in Weston-super-Mare, with some golfers coming from across the region.

The winner of the competition was 18 year old Thomas Hamilton from Lansdown Golf Club in Bath, who scored a gross 72, which included a number of birdies and an eagle at the par 5 15th hole.

Guy Gusterson, managing director at St. Modwen Homes said: “Supporting and encouraging the local community is integral to ensuring our new developments are a success. The Worlebury Junior Open celebrates those young golfers who show exceptional talent in the region and I am delighted that we were able to sponsor this year’s event and help to make it such a great success. I would like to personally congratulate everyone that took part in the competition.”

Jackie Ireland, sales manager at Locking Parklands, attended the event and helped give out prizes to the winner and runners up.

Colin Chandler, the Junior Open organiser at Worlebury Golf Club, said: “The course at Worlebury Golf Club offers a good challenge to both high and low handicap players. Although short in length, its narrow, tree-lined fairways and boundary walls present a number of ‘risk reward’ shots. Both the winner and runner up in the Junior Open displayed fantastic course management, especially for their age.

“Each year the event appears to get even better, and with the generous sponsorship from St. Modwen Homes, the winning Junior players received some fantastic prizes. It is great to know that a national company believes in our event and wants to help support Junior golf in Weston-super-Mare.”

Worlebury Golf Club is the third local organisation that St. Modwen Homes has supported in Weston-super-Mare since the beginning of the year (2013), having also led a site safety day with Locking Primary School and announced its sponsorship of local youth football club, Priory Pumas.

Founded in 1908, Worlebury Golf Club is situated on Worlebury Hill and boasts beautiful views overlooking the Severn Estuary and the South Wales coast to the north and The Mendip hills to the south. It also overlooks the Locking Parklands development.

The latest phase at Locking Parklands, The Meadows, is currently under construction and will deliver 58 homes when complete, including two bedroom apartments, priced from £132,950 and two, three and four bedroom houses, priced from £248,950. All the new properties are available under the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.
