St Modwen plans major office scheme at Birchley Island
Planning consent is being sought by St Modwen Developments Ltd, the development subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC, for 7,246 sq m (78,000 sq ft) of offices at Birchley Island, adjacent to Junction 2 of the M5, one of the most successful and prominent commercial locations in the West Midlands.
St Modwen will carry out the scheme through a development partnership with Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, which owns the balance of the 2.8 acre site. A detailed application has been submitted for two three-storey buildings of 4,134 sq m (44,500 sq ft) and 3,112 sq m (33,500 sq ft).
As part of the development it is proposed to create a signalised junction into the site off the A4123.
Mike Murray of St Modwen said: “Birchley Island has become a major location for mixed business uses and we anticpate receiving strong interest in our proposals. We are preparing to market soon for occupiers requiring purpose-built accommodation.”
“The location is already a great success with the establishment of new offices for N Power and Centrica as well as an ASDA superstore.”
Knight Frank is to represent St Modwen.
