ST. MODWEN PLANS WELLINGBOROUGH RETAIL HUB

Proposals to create a new 35,000 sq ft retail and leisure hub on a key approach to Wellingborough Town Centre have been submitted to the Borough Council of Wellingborough by St. Modwen.

The regeneration specialist’s plans include provision for a 22,500 sq ft foodstore, Drive-Thru restaurant and retail space at the 3.4 acre plot on Wellingborough’s London Road.

The planning application also includes new vehicle and pedestrian links to improve access to the town centre and the Castlefields Retail Park opposite, which is home to M&S Simply Food, B&Q. Pizza Hut and Travelodge.

St. Modwen acquired the brownfield site in October 2013 through its Northern Home Counties region and intends to begin construction later in 2014 following receipt of planning consent.

Gary Morris, Senior Development Manager at St. Modwen said:

“Wellingborough is currently seeing a great deal of new investment, creating a real opportunity to bring this site back into use as a new retail and leisure hub which supports growth prospects for the town centre as a whole.

“The site’s location on one of the main approaches to the town centre and its links to existing shopping in the area mean that we’re confident that we can attract new retailers to the development and create a destination of choice for the people of Wellingborough.

“We have already had strong interest from national companies and hope to announce lettings in the coming weeks.”
