St Modwen preparing for start on Worcester’s largest retail scheme for years

St Modwen Developments Ltd has obtained planning consent for a canalside 10,219 sq m (110,000 sq ft) non-food retail warehouse park on the edge of Worcester city centre.

The scheme, which spans the Birmingham and Worcester Canal, occupies an 8.65 acre site which has been assembled over a number of years.

It includes a new pedestrian bridge and pub and restaurant with a canal frontage. A replacement road bridge at Tallow Hill will also be constructed to create a new eastern gateway into the city.

Improvements are also planned to the canal towpath and mooring facilities provided for narrow boats and cruisers.

Work on the two-phase development is expected to begin next January and the first phase will be completed in time for trading Christmas 2001.

Nick Kay of St Modwen said: “We will be carrying out a prestigious scheme in a high profile location. Already we have attracted an encouraging level of interest from national retailers.”

St Modwen has appointed Ramsdens as letting agent.
