St. Modwen ready to start first new development at Thurleigh

The first new-build development on the former Thurleigh airfield site in Bedfordshire which St Modwen acquired from the Ministry of Defence in 1996, is scheduled to begin in January.

Planning consent for five workshop/warehouse units totalling 20,000 sq ft , which range from 1,500 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft, has been granted on Thurleigh Airfield Business Park. It is anticipated that the units will appeal to a variety of new and expanding business users.

St Modwen, the UK¹s leading regeneration specialist, also has planning consent for the development of a larger 40 acre part of the 1,250-acre estate for employment purposes. Recently, Paragon Automotive expanded its operation by agreeing to occupy more than 150,000 sq ft of hanger space plus 96 acres of open storage on the site.

Peter Rudd of St Modwen, said: “The units should be ready for occupation early next summer. Because of the shortage of new accommodation of this size and type in the area we anticpate concluding deals prior to completion.”
