ST MODWEN SUBMITS PLANNING APPLICATION AT COOMBS WOOD
For Primary School and Sports & Social Club
St Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has submitted a planning application to secure the long-term future of Coombs Wood Sports and Social Club and to expand the sports and recreational facilities of Olive Hill Primary School, Halesowen.
Following extensive public consultation and working with the club on details for its relocation and new facilities, St Modwen is now seeking consent for a new larger cricket pitch, replacement bowling green, pavilion and on-site car parking on land off Stewarts Road.
As part of the planning application to Dudley MBC, consent is also being sought for new sports and educational facilities for the primary school comprising two football pitches, a multi-use games area, an early learning centre and an environmental zone.
Both schemes which will total circa seven acres, lie on the eastern fringe of the Coombeswood Green Wedge on land owned by St Modwen.
Ian Romano of St Modwen said: “We have been working closely with both the sports club and the school in preparing this application, and taking into account the views expressed by residents at the various public consultations we have held.
“We are very pleased to be working in partnership with the club and school to bring forward a set of proposals that will meet the needs and aspirations of two important community organisations.
“The existing Coombs Road site of the sports and social club is being promoted for residential use for a mix of approximately 80 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes. It is anticipated, subject to planning consent, that a start on relocating the club and expanding the school’s facilities could begin early next year.”
Nick Jones, chairman of Coombs Wood Sports & Social Club, said: “As voted by our membership, we are in support and agree in principle to the plans St Modwen has submitted on our behalf for the relocation onto the Coombeswood Green wedge. The proposals will secure the future for the club and provide much needed new facilities.”
Notes to Editors:
St Modwen is also developing the adjacent 46-acre Coombs Wood Business Park, providing to date 485,000 sq ft of offices and industrial accommodation on a former Corus steelworks site.
More than 1,000 jobs have been created or safeguarded through the development.
