St Modwen unveil plans for Mold shopping centre

St Modwen Ventures Ltd, an investment subsidiary of St Modwen Properties plc has announced proposals for the revitalisation of The Daniel Owen Shopping Centre in Mold town centre.

St Modwen has already held discussions with retailers in the centre and with Mold Town Partnership which comprises representatives of Mold Town Council, Flintshire County Council and retailers represented within the town. The plans now proposed reflect the needs and issues identified during that process.

St Modwen specialises in the regeneration of ‘tired’ town centres. The plans for Mold include the construction of ten new shop units totalling approximately 2,349 sq m (25,288 sq ft) , to accommodate a number of major retailers together with upper floors for office or residential use, and an upgrade of the existing external areas of the centre. The total cost of the work will be in excess of £2.5 million.

Michelle Taylor, regional director of St Modwen, said: “Mold is a vibrant town centre and we are delighted to be involved in upgrading The Daniel Owen Centre. There is an excellent opportunity to improve customer choice by the introduction of new retailers, and we are anxious to improve the contribution made by the indoor market by repositioning it within the centre.

“The scheme also closes off a number of alleyways by the construction of additional retail units, to strengthen pedestrian flow through the centre, and increase security. A relocation of the indoor market is proposed but we anticipate that it will remain in the centre on the current site of the library which itself will be relocated to a suitable alternative location nearby.”
