St Modwen unveils plans for Mold shopping centre

A planning application for 3,902 sq m (42,000 sq ft) of new retail development with office and residential above, at The Daniel Owen Shopping Centre, Mold, Flintshire, has been lodged by St Modwen Ventures Ltd, an investment subsidiary of St Modwen Properties PLC.

Following the acquisition of the 1960s shopping centre last year, St Modwen has, with the co-operation of Mold Town Council and Flintshire County Council, devised a redevelopment scheme to accommodate space for retail tenants with larger accommodation requirements who are currently unable to satisfy their requirements in the town.

St Modwen hope that work will commence on site in the autumn when the relocation of the existing market hall and the construction of relocated retail units will start. The main development is likely to follow early in 2002 and be completed by that summer.

Michelle Taylor, regional director of St Modwen, said: “We are very pleased with the co-operation received from all parties involved in the town centre which has enabled us to come forward with an exciting regeneration scheme for this area of Mold town centre. The planning application reflects six months of local consultations to arrive at a scheme which will benefit customers and traders alike.

“Retail interest in the new units is strong and we expect to be able to announce anchor tenants for the scheme very shortly.” Legat Owen is letting agent for St Modwen.
