STEEL STRUCTURE SHOWS SCALE OF DEVELOPMENT AT BURTON GATEWAY

Two hundred and fifty tonnes of steel have been craned into position at Burton Gateway Industrial Park for BG87, a major new speculative industrial warehouse being delivered by St. Modwen in Burton-on-Trent.

The 87,000 sq ft warehouse is the first unit to be built at what is set to become one of largest industrial and warehouse developments in the Midlands, where St. Modwen has outline planning consent for 1 million sq ft of industrial and distribution space and up to 1,500 jobs could be created.

The UK’s leading regeneration specialist has been working on the site since spring to create the dedicated new access off the A38, and now that the foundations and steelworks for BG87 are in place, it is possible to get a real sense of the scale of proposals for the development.

With a superb central location close the A38, M42 and A50, a number of major occupiers, including Pirelli, Unilever, Boots, Argos and Toyota, are already based nearby.

Ian Romano, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said, “This is a key milestone in our build programme for Burton Gateway. The steelwork is the skeleton of the building and shows the size and scale of what is on offer. With the majority of site activity so far concentrated on the new junction, it is great to now see the building form on the skyline.

“Burton Gateway will be attractive to businesses looking for well-connected space and is set to provide a significant jobs boost to the local area when the first unit is completed in January 2016.”

Agent Jon Ryan-Gill, partner at Knight Frank, Birmingham, added, “Burton Gateway is very well connected and as such enquiries are already coming in, it is great to now see developments taking shape, it brings the scheme to life.”

Burton Gateway is part of St. Modwen’s wider Branston Leas development, which includes the Branston Square retail centre; the creation of up to 660 new three, four and five bedroom homes; and Branston Leas Woods.
