TRENTHAM ESTATE AND GARDENS GEARS UP FOR RECORD BREAKING SUMMER

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has announced record breaking visitor figures to the Trentham Estate and Gardens. In excess of 10,000 people poured through the North Staffordshire attraction during the recent half term week – more than a 100 per cent increase on the same week in 2008*.

The recent figures demonstrate that there has been a successful start to the 2009 season at the Trentham Estate and Gardens. Total visitors to the Gardens and Lake were up by over 85 per cent in March, April and May compared to the same period last year; and Annual Tickets sales have increased by more than three and a half times compared to figures for 2008. More than 50 per cent more Annual Tickets have been sold at Trentham since 1 December 2008 than for the whole of previous year to 30 November 2008.

Mike Herbert, St. Modwen’s regional director who also runs the Trentham Estate and Gardens, said: “The team here is thrilled to have had the first ever 10,000 visitor week at Trentham; and following these unprecedented results, we are now gearing up for a record breaking summer. St. Modwen is committed to putting Trentham on the map as a major tourist attraction and it is incredibly rewarding to see our ongoing investment reflected in the number of visitors to the Estate, particularly in the current economic climate.

“Providing a first class visitor experience is at the heart of what we are striving to achieve at Trentham and at the end of May we unveiled the prestigious Italian Garden Tearooms. The Tearooms has proven to be a stunning addition to the Italian Gardens, which are now truly reaching their full potential as we enter the peak summer season.

“With a full programme of events lined up for the second half of the year, together with the promise of good weather, we are confident that Trentham will continue to go from strength to strength throughout 2009. We are also well positioned to cater for the increasing number of people choosing to holiday here in the UK, rather than abroad, with Trentham being a destination for the entire family. Furthermore, St. Modwen remains hopeful that the ongoing success of Trentham is a strong sign that the wider regional tourism industry is on course for a profitable summer.”

Trentham is key to North Staffordshire’s leisure and tourism offering and is an established visitor attraction. Five years into a flagship £100 million regeneration project, St. Modwen has undertaken England’s largest garden restoration project at Trentham, and as such the Italian Gardens have undergone a massive transformation.
