VULCAN SPORTS GROUPS SCORE NEW PREMISES
Sports facilities at the old Vulcan Works site in Newton-le-Willows could soon be relocated to brand new, purpose built facilities as part of a new planning application by the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen.
Under the application, the Bowling, Football and Rifle Clubs will receive new pavilion buildings, along with adjacent facilities to accommodate their requirements, such as a bowling green and football pitches. St. Modwen committed to the delivery of new premises for the clubs as part of its initial planning consent for the area.
Following extensive work on the site, including the delivery of housing, children’s play area and public green space, the new application will enable St. Modwen to bring forward demolition of the old sports facilities in order for an 18,000 sq ft food store to be built. Work could start on site as early as spring next year.
Paul Batho, Projects Director at St. Modwen, said: “The sports clubs at Vulcan have historically been an integral part of this community. It has always been part of our commitment to the area to deliver new premises for these clubs and to ensure that they have the facilities to continue to thrive. Work on the housing element at Wargrave Road is now in advanced stages and, by bringing this relocation forward, we can deliver a much needed food store for the site.”
