WATERDALE SHOPPING CENTRE SEES INCREASE IN FOOTFALL

The number of people visiting Waterdale Shopping Centre has increased significantly over the past 12 months, according to new research figures.  The Centre has experienced a 70 per cent rise in overall footfall, with weekday footfall increasing by 85 per cent. St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, acquired the Shopping Centre in 2013 and is undertaking a comprehensive refurbishment programme to attract more people to it.

St. Modwen’s ongoing refurbishment activity, which forms one part of the developer’s investment in the Centrewill create a more vibrant and attractive environment. Work is currently underway to upgrade all 37 residential apartments, including the installation of new fitted kitchens and bathrooms. All exterior walls and fixtures have also been repainted.

St. Modwen also plans to make significant improvements to the underground car park. Planned work, scheduled to start later this year, includes concrete repairs, new floor coatings and refurbishment of all the stairwells.

Richard Bannister, Yorkshire and the North East Regional Manager, said: “When we acquired Waterdale Shopping Centre, one of our aims was to bring people back to the Centre. The latest footfall figures are therefore very encouraging.  We continue to invest in the Centre and are committed to a rolling programme of improvements to create a vibrant, convenient and attractive place to shop and live in Doncaster.”

St. Modwen continues to attract new retailers to the Centre. Junny Fashions and EYG Home Improvements are the most recent businesses to agree leases with others expected to be announced shortly.
