Widnes Regeneration Ltd, the company jointly owned by St Modwen Properties PLC and Halton Borough Council, has applied for planning permission to create a new district centre at Halebank, Widnes.
The current Asda store in Halebank is scheduled to be relocated to Widnes town centre as part of Widnes Regeneration’s comprehensive redevelopment of the Widnes Road area. Without a new district centre, Halebank would have no local facilities and Widnes Regeneration has committed itself to Halton Borough Council to make sure that a new centre has been constructed by the
time Asda move.
Coun. Rob Polhill, Halton’s Executive Board member for Development, Planning and Transportation, said: “The plans, which can be viewed by the public on the council’s website will be considered in due course. If planning permission is granted, up to four retailers could be housed in the centre. It is important that the people of Halebank are not left without local
shopping facilities when the Asda store closes.”
Michelle Taylor of St Modwen Properties, said: “We’re already in discussion with a number of national convenience retailers interested in locating in Halebank. We are committed to the provision of this facility which will be followed by a mixed use development of Asda’s site after it has relocated.”
