Widnes regeneration seek consent for further town centre improvement

Widnes Regeneration Ltd, the company jointly formed by St Modwen Properties PLC and Halton Boorugh Council, has made planning applications for further developments to improve the centre of Widnes.

One application is to develop new retail units with offices above at Simms Cross which will link the new Asda store with the town centre and create streetscape improvements and a new urban park.

It is anticipated, subject to planning, that work will begin on site early in the New Year.

The second application is for the construction of retail units with two floors of apartments above, and courtyard-style apartments and mews housing. on the site of the former Express Dairies, adjoining the new Asda store site. It is also hoped that work will start early in 2004.

Paul Batho of St Modwen, said: “We are very excited to be delivering more schemes in Widnes so soon after the Asda foodstore development finally began. Market demand looks encouraging, even at this early stage, and we are optimistic that we can continue to build further successful regeneration schemes in addition to what has already been achieved.”
