WORK GETS UNDERWAY ON NEW FIRE STATION AT GREAT WESTERN BUSINESS PARK
St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has begun work on a new fire station at its Great Western Business Park in Worcester on behalf of Hereford & Worcester Fire Authority (HWFA).
The 20,000 sq ft bespoke facility will provide modern, low carbon accommodation utilising micro combined heat and power (CHP) and photovoltaic power generation. It will boast high quality training facilities as well as space for The Young Firefighters, to encourage the next generation of firefighters.
Construction is due to complete in January 2015, enabling the fire service to relocate from its existing base at Copenhagen Street in the city.
The new building is the first of several being built on the second phase of development at Great Western Business Park. Last month St. Modwen was granted consent to build six new warehouse and light industrial units ranging from 3,500 to 5,500 sq ft. The units are due to be built by the end of the year and will be available to lease or buy.
Jonathan Green, development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “I am delighted the construction of the fire station is underway, kick starting phase 2 of Great Western Business Park. The Park is secure, centrally located and provides great opportunities for HWFA to expand and continue to deliver its high quality service.
“The first phase of the Park is already fully occupied with high profile local and national companies, so we are developing the second phase in response to high demand for new, good quality accommodation. Set to boost inward investment and generate new of jobs, phase 2 is great news for Worcester.”
Derek Prodger MBE, chairman of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Sevice, added: “Our current fire station in Copenhagen Street has served us well for the last 70 years but lacks modern training facilities and is no longer fit for purpose. This new facility will enhance our service to the people of Worcester and support the work of our firefighters.”
Companies occupying Phase 1 of Great Western Business Park include Euro Car Parts, Materials Solutions, Thompson Electrical, SPAL Automotive, Medicx Health, Storage King, Altaras International, Nemesis GB and Andrew Page.
Great Western Business Park, off Tolladine road, is located half a mile from Worcester City Centre and within two miles of Junction 6 of the M5 motorway.
