Next phase of regeneration activity to revitalise Waterdale Shopping Centre

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, is set to start work on the redevelopment of Young Street car park in Doncaster, delivering new and improved retail and leisure facilities to the area, as part of the company’s ongoing investment in the town.

The redevelopment includes plans for a two storey building, incorporating 11,000 sq ft of ground floor retail space and a further 11,000 sq ft of space on the first floor, planned for a variety of uses, including office, leisure and restaurants. Work is expected to be completed in early 2017. Other improvement works will also take place on existing buildings close to the Young Street car park to improve the retail experience for shoppers and residents.

In preparation for the start of work on site, the Young Street car park will be permanently closed from 29th April 2016. The underground car park at Waterdale Shopping Centre and Princegate car park will provide existing users of this car park with safe and secure parking alternatives.

St. Modwen is asking users of the Young Street car park to keep their tickets throughout April in order to receive free parking in the underground car park throughout May, June and July. Each ticket provides one free stay. In addition, visitors to Waterdale Shopping Centre have the opportunity to win one month’s free parking by simply liking the competition post on the Waterdale Shopping Centre Facebook page.

St. Modwen has further invested in Waterdale Shopping Centre through the recent purchase of 31 Cleveland Street, occupied by Sofia Furniture.  This acquisition will allow improvements to be made to a key part of the centre in future phases of regeneration.

Our plans include improvements to some of the existing buildings in the centre but also work to deliver a more modern and attractive retail and leisure environment to the area, which we are confident will drive greater investment and interest in the town.

St. Modwen’s commitment to Doncaster also includes investment in a major new 80,000 sq ft speculative commercial development at Parkside Business Park. Part of a first phase of development, to be completed this Autumn, it will deliver much-needed good quality business space to the town.
