WORK STARTS ON MAJOR NEW 250,000 SQ FT DEVELOPMENT AT PARKSIDE BUSINESS PARK

St. Modwen, the UK’s leading regeneration specialist, has begun work to deliver the first phase of a major new 250,000 sq ft commercial development at Parkside Business Park in Doncaster.

A ground-breaking ceremony, attended by the Mayor of Doncaster and Councillor Bill Mordue, Portfolio Holder for Business, Skills, Tourism and Culture at Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, marked the official start of work on site.

The first phase of the speculative development includes two new warehouses, totalling almost 80,000 sq ft, which will address the current shortage of good quality warehouse space across the town. It is expected to be completed in Autumn 2016.  In addition to bringing new investment opportunities to the local area, the development is envisaged to create around 150 full time jobs once fully complete.

Rob Richardson, Development Manager at St. Modwen, said: “This groundbreaking ceremony is a major milestone and the start of a new chapter in the long and important history of this site to Doncaster and aligns with our strength of regeneration. This is a significant development, bringing further investment and employment opportunities to the town. Our plans to progress with a speculative development demonstrates our commitment and confidence in the town and its significance within the growing regional economy.”

Tim Hazeltine, Inward Investment Manager at Business Doncaster, said: “Doncaster’s economy seems to have found a new confidence with a number of exciting developments being delivered. This comes at a time when there seems to be a strong pent up appetite for new quality accommodation. We’re extremely pleased to see St. Modwen break ground on this new development and we look forward to working with them to help make this a fully occupied and successful investment for the town.”

Lindum has been appointed by St. Modwen as the lead construction contractor. Their Managing Director of the York Office, Jonathan Sizer, was pleased to be at the ground breaking ceremony and he said: “The build phase of the project will last seven months and create work for local people during the construction phase as we work with our local supply chain partners. We are delighted to be working with St. Modwen to deliver a project of such importance. These are exciting times for everyone in the town and we are proud to be part of the success story of Doncaster’s continued regeneration.”

The development of the first phase will be completed in Autumn this year and Property Consultants CBRE will be marketing the new buildings. Mike Baugh, Senior Director at CBRE, said: “Phase 1 of Parkside Business Park presents a superb opportunity to address the current shortfall in warehouse / industrial accommodation in Doncaster and the South Yorkshire region. The scheme has been designed to ensure that the specification, layout and size range will generate mass appeal. St. Modwen has a proven track record of delivering excellent quality in design and finish. The development is already being well received.”

St. Modwen’s growing commitment to Doncaster is evidenced by its increased investment in the town.  In addition to Parkside Business Park, work continues to revitalise Waterdale Shopping Centre, including the delivery of 22,000 sq ft of improved and modern retail, leisure and office space. The final phase of development at Crompton Retail Park, including a new 10,000 sq ft Farmfoods store, is also expected to be completed in 2016.
