WYTHENSHAWE TOWN CENTRE HITS GREEN TARGETS

Retailers in Wythenshawe town centre have hit their target of recycling 50 tonnes of cardboard since April 2011.

The achievement follows the launch of an initiative by town centre owner St. Modwen to reduce waste by half and recycle as much cardboard and paper as possible.

The green campaign has also included installing new mixed recycling bins around the centre to encourage shoppers to recycle their cans, bottles and glasses.

Victoria Nichol, Wythenshawe town centre manager, said: “We made an appeal to all of our retailers who don’t have recycling contracts to use our facilities, and they really responded. We’re delighted that 50 tonnes of cardboard has been prevented from going into landfill and we’ll be encouraging everyone to keep up the good work in 2012.”

Wythenshawe town centre is home to more than 80 retailers and businesses such as Pound World, Shoe Zone and Card Factory have taken part in the recycling initiative.
