Wythenshawe’s Community Colouring Wall comes to life

Wythenshawe’s community wall came to life on Monday 8th July as local schools took part in an art competition to have their designs featured in an artistic colouring wall in the shopping centre.

Students from local schools, Benchill Primary, Sandilands Primary, The Willows Primary and Manchester Enterprise Academy, were tasked with creating designs for a wall mural and to be in with the chance of winning a cash prize.

The students’ creative skills were put to the test as they drew images associated with summer in Wythenshawe. Out of all the schools, 15 lucky students’ designs were chosen then collated and transformed into a vinyl mural. The students were invited back to the centre for the launch of the community wall to colour in their dazzling designs. Shoppers were also given the opportunity to join in on the artistic fun as marker pens were left to colour in the artwork throughout the summer. The wall is currently located in the covered walkway beside Wythenshawe Market.

Student Liam Whittaker from Manchester Enterprise Academy was awarded best design and won an amazing £50 cash prize for his outstanding artwork which was enlarged and placed in the middle of the mural amongst the other designs.

Daniel Davis, Wythenshawe Town Centre Manager, commented:

“The students rose to the community wall challenge and created some exceptional artwork that both the students and the community of Wythenshawe could be proud of. It was inspiring to see the students come together to create something truly beautiful.”
